Pumpkin picking at Balgone
Shhhhhhhhh what is that I can hear? The cackle of witchy laughter coming from the Lake in Balgone? Mwahahaha! Quick grab the kids and go and investigate! Following the Haunted trail through the beautiful Balgone Estate (after you have purchased your tickets of course and booked your pumpkin picking spot at the end of the trailFollow the 2km adventure around the beautiful lake situated at the foot of a sharp cliff face. The countryside at its best with a Halloween twist. Keep your wits about you as all kinds of ghosts and ghouls could cross your path. Mwahhahahaha!!!It just would not be Halloween without a trick or treat now, would it? Make sure you visit the Crooked Cauldron and get your share of toasted marshmallows on offer by the lakeside. The trick is to make sure you win the favour of the witches! Watch them weave their spells as they stir their roots and shoots in the crooked cauldron! Watch out for the Bats, spiders and the occasional skeleton or two as you wind your way through the Estate’s Spooky Trail The Maize Maze
The A’maize’ing Maze will require you to keep track of your steps. Towering high, our 2-acre maze will make the explorer out of you but don’t worry you’ll get there in the end. And when you do you enter the field of pumpkins a sea of orange, white, green and believe it or not even pink awaits! You can then choose your pumpkin from 21 varieties and take it away to carve into any shape you want. Why not make it’s eyes bat shaped! With 30,000 pumpkins to choose from all different shapes and sizes too you are spoiled for choice you can pick up some corn on the cob straight from the field of corn too.Various food vans are on site to keep everyone happy choose from home made burgers, pizzas, falafel’s, toasties and more. Delighted to see SOLE subscribers Cake and Seriously Doh are there serving the most delicious donuts, cakes and coffee and little lunch boxes There is face painting for the kids and a bar selling mulled wine.

Exciting news too for Balgone Estate …… they are hoping to open their very own cafe in 2023! We have our fingers and toes crossed for them!
Did you know that it was just a bit of fun bit during lockdown when the Balgone farming family thought they would grow 500 pumpkins and have a couple days to have friends and family down to have some free pumpkins but we ended up with 7 days worth of pumpkin picking and over 10,000 people. Just shows how it grows arms and legs!
Main varieties that you carve with are Racer F1’s, Harvest Moon’s and Polar Bears F1’s. We have warty ones such as goosebumps, spectres (white), warty goblins and mini warts. Our munchkins are jill-be-little, pump-ke-mon, kamo kamo, casperita, celebrations and and lil-pump-ke-mon. our main squashes are crown prince, kabocha, turks turban and harlequins!
