The Belters went to Ayrshire knowing a victory would secure promotion to Scotland's fifth tier and secured a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Wayne McIntosh and Jamie Docherty.

The county side headed to Ayrshire to take on West of Scotland Football League champions Darvel in the deciding play-off match after both teams defeated St Cuthbert Wanderers last week.

Tranent were 7-0 winners against South of Scotland Football League (SoSFL) champions St Cuthbert Wanderers last weekend while Darvel defeated the Kirkcudbright team 3-1 on Wednesday.

Calum Elliot’s men headed into the fixture as slight underdogs with Darvel having seen off Auchinleck Talbot to the league title and boasting a squad full of SFL experience.

However, Tranent started the game well, settling the nerves before a McIntosh goal just before half-time sent the Belters into the lead.

In the second half the county side kept up the pressure, playing some excellent football that dispelled any underdog myth.

Five minutes from the end, Jamie Docherty would decide the fixture, scoring the second of the match to send the Belters fans into raptures.

The 2-0 victory secured one of the club's greatest moments as they enter the fifth tier of the Scottish game for the first time in their history.
