FOUR men have been arrested and charged in connection with the hit-and-run death of a 30-year-old Tranent woman in Canada.

Erin Yoxall had been living in Toronto for eight years before she was struck by a white Mercedes convertible driving at “a high rate of speed” in Toronto at around 3.16am last Thursday.

The University of Edinburgh graduate was rushed to St Michael's Hospital with "life-threatening injuries" but passed away on Saturday.

On Tuesday, three men were arrested by 22 Division officers in Canada.

They have been identified as Sinesha Bogojevic, 41, of Toronto, Milorad Nikolic, 44, of Mississauga, and Zachariasz Billik, 37, of Toronto were each charged with: “failing to stop at scene of accident-causing death, public mischief and obstructing police”.

Later that day, Erug Direk, 42, of Toronto, who is alleged to have been driving the car that struck Erin, surrendered himself to investigators.

He has been arrested and charged with “dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death, failing to stop at the scene of accident-causing death, public mischief and obstructing police”.

He appeared in court at Old City Hall in Toronto at 10am yesterday morning.

He is expected to appear again tomorrow.

Toronto police believe other parties assisted the alleged driver after the collision and anticipate subsequent arrests.

They thanked the public for their assistance in the ongoing investigation.
