Resident in East Lothian?

Struggling with your household expenses

because of the cost-of-living crisis?

The Community Windpower Energy Fund can help.

We are launching a £1,000,000 energy fund to help vulnerable residents in East Lothian with their energy bills this winter. In a partnership with Community Windpower, East Lothian Council and Advice Direct Scotland, the fund aims to provide a reassuring safety net for residents in East Lothian as energy bills and electricity costs soar.

Applications to the fund can be made by individuals online or through organisations including the council, which will be the lead referral partner. This fund is supported directly from Community Windpower's onshore wind farms near Aikengall, East Lothian. It will be administered by Advice Direct Scotland, which also operates the Scottish Government's Home Heating Support Fund across the country, with swift payments made to successful applications to help them with their energy bills.

Individuals can apply to the fund through the 'Household Application Form' on the communityadvice.scot website. Alternatively, you can apply through one of the trusted referral partners who will verify your eligibility, submit an application on your behalf, and communicate with you when the funding decision has been made.

National charity Advice Direct Scotland will make payments for electricity usage by issuing PayPoint or Post Office vouchers or send the money direct to the supplier for those with a credit meter. Only one application can be made by, or on behalf of, a household – and in most cases a grant will be awarded for two months’ electricity use. However, additional payments can be made based on individual circumstances, such as the number of children in a household or evidence of illness or disability. The fund is not for historical debt and is due to run until the end of March 2023.
